Home Guard.—The monthly meeting of the Maclennan Locality Committee was held at Maclennan on Saturday night, Mr W. Langmuir presiding over delegates from the following branches: Stuarts, Tarara-Purakauiti, Maclennan, and Tahakopa. It was decided to hold a halfday parade at Maclennan on Saturday afternoon, when Constable Myers and Lieutenant Alloo (Owaka) will be present to reissue rifles to active members of the Home Guard. The question of the payment of wages of the company commander while in camp undergoing Home Guard training was discussed. It was decided that the levies of 2s 6d paid by guardsmen be reserved for this purpose. Members expressed the view that this cost should be borne by the Government. The matter of arranging further finance will be dealt with at a subsequent meeting. ' Plunket Dance.—The committee of the Tahakopa branch of the Plunket Society held a successful dance on Saturday. A produce stall assisted in making the effort highly satisfactory. At the conclusion of the function Mirs Stoddart extended thanks to donors of produce and others who had assisted. Competitions were won by Messrs P. Stott, J. Blair, and J. McKenzie.

Tramway Bridge Collapses.—On Tuesday afternoon a bridge spanning a creek near the Tahakopa Valley road collapsed as a heavy load of timber from Hogg and Co.’s mill was crossing it. The bridge, a wooden trestle structure, is about 14 feet in height and three chains long. The tractor draws an exceptionally heavy load of three trolleys, the first two containing approximately 3500 feet of timber each, and the third carrying about five cords of slabs. The tractor and first trolley remained on. the tram line, but the other two trolleys crashed into the creek as the bridge collapsed. Before the tram line will again be in use approximately one chain of trestle bridging will have to be erected.
