OBITUARY

MRS PETER CULLEN The death occurred on Saturday of Mrs Alexandria Jane Cullen, a wellknown personality of the Lawrence, Gore and Mataura districts. Mrs Cullen who was 78 years of age, was born at Munro's Gully, Lawrence, and was the third daughter of Mr and Mrs George Munro, very early settlers of the Lawrence district, who ware engaged in farming pursuits and had an intimate acquaintance with Gabriel Read, the discoverer of alluvial gold in that locality. Mrs Cullen received her education in the town of her birth, and 48 years ago she married Mr Peter Cullen, then In business in Gore. Subsequently, they resided at Crookston and Mataura, where Mr Cullen carried on farming operations. Mrs Cullen was closely associated with patriotic work during the last war, and also with the Plunket Society. She is survived by her husband and a family of three sons. A MASTERTON CENTENARIAN (P.A.) MASTERTON, June 10 Masterton's centenarian, Mrs Maria Reynolds, died yesterday afternoon in her 103rd year. She had resided in the Wairarapa since 1864. She came to the Dominion with her husband 78 years ago, taking up farming at East Taratahi. After her husband retired from farming they lived at Hutt for 10 years, where Mr Reynolds died in 1906. Mrs Reynolds then returned to Masterton, where she had lived ever since. She is survived by six children.' Until a short time ago she enjoyed excellent health.
