FORTY-HOUR WEEK
RECENT ATTACKS RESENTED ADEQUATE MACHINERY FOR EXTENSIONS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 10. A special meeting of delegates to the Wellington Trades Council 'last night "passed a resolution protesting against the recent attack on the 40-hour week by the Chamber of Commerce and the press. A resolution was passed emphasising that an emergency council had been set up on which the employers and workers were equally represented to deal with applications for an extension of hours, and the council had extended hpurs in all cases where it had been established that the increased hours would increase the country's war effort. LABOUR GOVERNMENT CONFIDENCE EXPRESSED At the last meeting of the Otago Labour Representation Committee, confidence was expressed in the ability of the present members of the Cabinet and of the Labour Government to administer the affairs of the country during the war period, and a resolution was passed unanimously declaring that the Parliamentary Labour Party should not form a Coalition or National Government with the Opposition.
