SOCIALS TO SOLDIERS

Waitahuna.—A large number of residents recently gathered in the Waitahuna Hall to honour Private Keith McCaw. Mr William Cameron presided, and after an enjoyable programme of songs and music he presented the guest of the evening with a monetary gift. Other speakers were the Rev. J. R. Shaw and Mr ; Abernethy, and Private McCaw suitably acknowledged the gift and the good wishes/extended to him. On Tuesday night a social was tendered to Private McCaw by the members of the Waitahuna Presbyterian. Church. After a musical "programme good wishes were extended by Messrs A.'Cameron (Bible class), W. Cameron (Deacons' Court), N. McCorkindale .(session), S. Webster (Waitahuna West) and, K. Thompson (Manuka Bible class). The Rev. J. R. Shaw, on behalf of the congregation, made a presentation to Private McCaw. Omakau.—Functions in honour of members of the armed forces, were held in several parts of the district during the past week. On Wednesday evening there was a large gathering at Poolburn, when Private R. H. Webster, who was on leave, was entertained. The proceedings took the form of a dance, and during an interval the chairman, Mr W. J. Dundass, on behalf of the residents made a presentation of a money belt contain-ing-a sum of money, and. a fountain" pen. •Representatives of the -returned" soldiers also spoke, and Private, Webster .suitably acknowledged the gooo/ wishes. . - Warrington.—A social and dance was held in the Warrington School last Wednesday, in honour of Private. J. Ferguson. There was a good attendance of- wellwishers from Warrington and. surrounding districts. Mr W. Watson (president of the Soldiers.' Social Committee) presented Private Ferguson with a wallet containing a sum of money, and wished him God-speed and a safe return. Mr T. Screen and Mr A. Inglis also .spoke. Items were given by Mrs, Mr and Miss Le. Gal, and Mr G. Connor .supplied the dance music. '
