THE OAMARU DISTRICT

WAITAKI HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS' ASSOCIATION The annual report of the Waitaki High School Old Boys' Association (Oamaru branch) states, inter alia, that the active membership at the end of .the financial year was 209, a decrease of 63 on the previous year, and the accounts for the year showed a deficiency of £22 12s Id on the previous year, The cjredit balance was £53 i4s 3d, and unpaid subscriptions amounted to. £l9. A sum of £3 10s was collected and handed to the school funds for sending parcels to old boys overseas. Over 200 old boys from this'district were on active service, and the committee would appreciate information as to the actual numbers in. the various-units. Sympathy was extended to the relatives of all old boys who had given their livesJn the service of their country. The branch had contributed £34 5s to the MeCulloch Memorial Fund, which now amounted to £B7 2s. MOTHERS* UNION ANNUAL MEETING The thirteenth annual meeting of St. Luke's Mothers' Union Was held on Thursday last, Mrs Pinder occupying the chair. The annual report showed that the activities of the branch had been kept to a very high standard, and the. balance sheet showed a highly satisfactory state of the finances. -Archdeacon Russell was warmly thanked for his unfailing help and guidance,: and members combined to offer congratulations to him on the completion of his 50 years of ministry in the church. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs Williamson in her illness. The membership stood at 70 financial members. The following officers were elected:—Enrolling member, Mrs Williamson; secretary, Mrs Cowan; treasurer. Mrs Baker; vice-presidents—Mesdames Irwin, McNally, and Blackburn; committee— Mesdames Hunter, Tomkins, Maurice, James Pye, Smith, Winsley, and Halvorsen; literature secretary, Mrs Anderson. OAMARU PRESBYTERY MONTHLY MEETING The "moderator (the Rev. W. W. French) presided at the monthly meeting of the Oamaru Presbytery yesterday morning, and gave a welcome to the Rev. J. M. McKenzie, a former minister of St. Paul's Church, and now, assistant' director of missions, and also to Mr D. McGimpsey. The Rev. J. Freeman, who is with the Y.M;C.A. in Burnham Military Camp, wrote acknowledging the presbytery's references to his work in Herbert before leaving for camp. In connection with the maintenance of ministry campaign, a Laymen's Commit- 1 tee has been set up in Oamaru, consisting' of Messrs R. Brown (convener), J.; McPhali, and A. R. Tait; with power to act. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to the committee for its work, arid committees of management, were urged to appoint representatives to the committee before June 30. The general treasurer submitted the. budget estimates for- the- current year,; showing the total to be £366 less than in the previous year, v The Oamaru Presbytery's allocation was £lßlo.—Received- • '•' The report on the triennial visitation: to the Palmerston Church was read by the clerk, the Rev. H. H. Barton, the progress being largely due to the wisdom and diligence of the minister, the Rev. W. W. French. The Rev. J. M. MeKenzle, who was invited to speak on the missionary campaign being conducted in Oamaru at the present time, addressed the meeting on the allocations made to the Mission Fund. Oamaru, he.regretted to say, was behind with its' allocations, and he was interested to know 1 the reason for the decline tn Oamaru's effort; Jte lyjped that Oamaru residents would do their best. to keep up .their allocation.
