THE LABOUR PARTY AND RATING
TO THE EDITOB Sir,—l would, like to ask Dr McMillan and Messrs E. T. Cox and M. Silver, stone how they propose to reduce the rates now. When they were in power, instead Of rer* icing the rates, they put them up, as I can prove. I have my receipts for the rates paid during the three years for which they were ■ in power My rates on a small were increased by lis 4d. This was uncalled for, as I had made no improvements beyond painting the fence in front to make it look respectable. They tried to make me pay a hose tax, but I refused, as I had no hose tap. An increase of lis 4d may not look much to some, but it was a lot to one who has to do the best he can on a pension of 305.—1. am, etc., Pensioner. Dunedih, May 13. LThe writer of the above letter has produced his receipts to us, and they show that, on this same variation, the rates were increased each year.—Ed. O.D.T.J
