OUTRAM TOWN BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Outram Town Board was held on Wednesday, and was attended by the chairman (Mr D. Ashley) and Messrs Cameron, Hughes. Little, and Watson. A letter was received from the Minister of Defence (Mr F. Jones), stating that his representations to the Minister of Public Works in regard to the lengthening of the railway bridge and the setting back of the embankment below Outram to relieve flood conditions had not been successful. It was advised that this work would not materially affect the flood conditions in the Silverstream area, and further extensive and costly protection works in the form of stopbanks and floodgates would be necessary and the cost would not be sufficiently justified by the improved production of the land protected. An application by the Taieri Mounted Rifles Troop for the use of the Drill Hall for parades was granted, and the West Taieri Football Club was granted the use of the recreation reserve. A letter was received from Mr J. H. Bathgate reminding the board that nothing had been done in regard to cleaning out the ditch through Mr Hannah's property.—lt was decided that Mr Hannah should be given notice to clean the ditch. The balance sheet as at March 31 showed a credit balance of £2BB.
