AIR FATALITY

EVIDENCE AT INQUEST QUESTION OF PHYSICAL FITNESS (Per United Press Association) FOXTON, Feb. 11. An inquest into the death of Leading Aircraftman K. Hasse was held before a jury. Evidence was given by Pilot Aircraftman Holmes that he had been feeling run down for a fortnight prior to the crash, and reported to the medical officer that on their way over from Blenheim to Ohakea he had experienced air sickness. When the navigator was taking over the controls on the return trip he said he lost consciousness, recovering too late to avoid crashing into the river. The .jury returned a verdict that Haase met his death from drowning, and added a rider that, in view of Holmes’s evidence, a more rigid test of pilots’ physical fitness should be imposed before pilots take machines into the air. At the conclusion of the inquest 9 ■ervice inquiry was held in camera.
