LORD LLOYD

DEATH ANNOUNCED (By Wireless) LONDON, Feb. 5. (Received Feb. 5, at .11 p.m.) . The death is announced from London of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, Lord Lloyd, who passed away at midnight at the age of 61. Lord Lloyd had been confined to bed with a chill three weeks before his death, and had been making satisfactory progress after being taken to a nursing home, for supervision, but in the last week he showed signs of becoming worse, and passed away. Lord Lloyd, who was also Leader of the House of Lords, was probably one of the most, vital administrators of his

age. He was a widely-travelled man, and became Secretary for the Colonies last year at the age of 60. He spent years of travel in Burma. Egypt, and Asia Minor.

He joined Parliament in 1910. and was the, first member to join up in the last war. He was mentioned in despatches six times. He was a Governor of Bengal, and in 1925 was appointed High Commissioner of Egypt and the Sudan Lord Lloyd was a man who threw himself into his work wholeheartedly. He was a keen airman, and gained his wings at the age of 58, being later able to fly A Hurricane singlehanded. He wrote many books.
