It is stated that Wild Career was allowed to drop, .out jof Racin* Club Handicap owing to dissatisfaction with the weights. In tne Invercargill Cup Wild Career 8.7 finished outside the first four— Mona’s Song Bj6. Doubleack 8.4. Schoolgirl SX and Night Pal 8.1. In the Southland Handicap Wild-Career 8.2 was beaten a length by Schoolgirl 83, with Mona's Song 8.0. three-parts of a length sway and Doubleack 8.7 fourth. In the Invercargill Cup,- Wild Career was meeting Mona’s Song on 71b and Doubleack on lib better terms. Doubleack meet* Mona’s Song at Gore on 81b better terms than In the Invercargill Cup. when a short head generated them. Fleet Street , ' j-

The form displayed at Gore will i carry a double Interest because Several of the horses likely to be seen out at. the meet, tag are amongst those . engaged at the Dunedin Cup, fixture. : Am<mgst them :1s Fleet Street, who displayed a return' to winning form at the Walrlo meeting.- He la engaged -in the Croydon < Handicap, which promises to be a rather:interesting race. Last season he appeared twice without gaining prominence; but In the previous one he won nine times, was six times second, and once third In 21 starts. He was only five times outside the money, and if sound enough to stand a preparation to reproduce form should be found .shading- well in his engagements at Goto. He has rather better form than Spendthrift, who has to give him weight in the Croydon Handicap. A Novice Field

The field engaged in tha Novlce Handicap at Gore don not. supply much in the wav of public form'to recommend them. Astral FWffie and Parlance.were a close second and third at Tapanul. beating Crinkle. Eastern Song and Lake Mist and thay should again finish in front ofthem at Gere. Royal Money finished fourth at Waldo, beating Top Spin and Crinkle, and this seems to delete 1 the two lastnamed. Royal Money was saddled up again in the following race, the Walrlo Cup,- and may not. forget the experience. Central Star was third to Gold Nugget and Kuririvbl at Wlngatui, and fourth at Walkoualtl to Divorced. XuraWbl and Pink Gauntlet'. Valcron has not appeared this season. Last year he- started, five, times and was twice In third place.: - After .two unplaced runs he was third .to Guilder and Baldoon at Amberley and third to The Vulture and Whlphand at Ashburton. Royal Chorus was fourth at Invercargill to Filibeg, Knight of Old.-t and Kohara, and fourth on the second day to King Gustave, Filibeg and Confidant. Ballyaggan has thrOe. unplaced performances, and Bsntas. one,. apd.;Sally .. Sage and Silver Light ’are" unknown quantities. Royal Chief' , . V«, The star performer at the-Dunedin Cup meeting will be Royal Chief, who already has a' James ;H(>zlett Gold Cup to his credit. He was hot sighted near the finish of the Wellington Cup when carrying 9.10, and .Was two lengths away in the W.R.C. Handicap with 9.9 to Wardress 7.7| and Proud Fox Bjo. run in 2mln ISfsec. The race record is held by Star Stranger, who ip 1927 wpn with 9.5 in 3min 17sec. Since then only four winners have won Inside of 2mln I9sec. On the third day of the meeting Royal Chief, 9.10 was fourth to •Screnata 7.12 and Wardress 8.0 In., 3mln 25sec. It had rained during the two .nre.*vioiis day* at ,Trentham. and the going .was on: the soft side, and. in . fact,- said to ;.be bad in places., Under the circumstance*, Royal Chief ran a very good race. In the first; nlaco hi .was badly treated as a defeated top-weight 'in the-W.H.C.. Handicap. A defeated top-weight should never, if possible, be asked to carry an increase or weight. If Royal Chief was defeated under 9.9 he had much less chance under 9.10. It was in Royal Chief’s favour that only nine others. went to the post, and hence he was likely to get a much better run than on the two previous days of the meeting.

Great Northern Derby Peterfe Find is being sorted out as likely to' start favourite fbr the Great Northern Trotting Derby. Leniency * • ■: it'-, is reported that A. Fair burn, the driver of iScapa Flow at the Wellington TVottlng Club s meeting, was fined £lO for using a whip with a piece of wire attached to it. Paying for Patronage Advertised In the programme for the Kaikoura Trotting Club's meeting are the following items;—(l) The club will grant a £3 subsidy on freightage cost of horses from outside the district of Marlborough which do not earn first or second money. (2) The club will provide stabling free and paddocking for all Visiting horses. Contrast' in Form

The marked contrast in the form displayed by Gold Bar at Wellington Created considerable comment amongst those Interested. It was a slow run race, as the first, half mile took Xmln BSec, a mile 2mln IBsec. and a mile and a-half 3mln 24scc. On the first day Gold Bar went the first mile In 2min Bsec, and stayed on to win In 4min 21 4-ssec. In the Wellington Cap the last mile would be run In about 2mln 6sec. Apparently the marked contrast in form did not: attract official notice. In comment on the race the Wellington Post said: " Ona of the hottest favourites,; ever producr<f at Hutt Park left his backers lamenting when Gold Bar failed over the final stages of the Wellington Trotting Cup Handicap, feature event of the second day of the Wellington Trotting Club's summer meeting. An Indication of how heavily the Addington gelding was supported Is revealed by the fact that an each-way Investment cm the horse would have produced a profit of only a little over 15 oar cent, had he won., No excuse could be offered for the defeat of Gold Bar, for he made hla own pace from the start, and seeing that he ran the first mile in only Shriln IBsec, whereas, he had cov

•red the same distance In 2mln Bscc on the previous day, it is difficult to ad* vance any reason why he failed to run bn when . pressed in the straight His driver evidently knew that the gelding was weakening quickly Just after straightening turning for home, for he did not drive him right out when tackled. All the honours of the race were with the winner. Zincali, who made a break at the start of about 36 yards, which, plus his handicap of 24 yards, saw him 60 yards away from the leaders when the field had gone a furlong. He slowly reduced his handicap to be within striking distance at the half-mile, where he commenced a fast move that landed him up alongside Gold Bar at the home turn. From this stage on he had the race in hand, even though he had to be kept up to his work to withstand a strong challenge from Fremont. who .was not too well placed at the turn, but was clear soon enough if he had been equal to the task of winning. Huguenot, restrained in’ the middle of the field for a mile and three-quarters, also came home solidly down the centre of tire track lor third money. Toccetle made a slight lapse right on the post, but she never looked like getting in the money. Three Tens and Smile Again had every chance, and best of the others was Salalon, who. ran a fair race.
