NAZI CLEMENCY AN INCREDULOUS AMERICAN (By Wireless) LONDON, Dec. 26. (Received Dec. 27,'at 2 a.m.) In the United States German sources have been giving it out that the Nazi Air Force was instructed not to bomb Britain on Christmas Day. The chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, commenting last night on these statements, said: "A man or a nation cannot become devoutly religious on one day of the year while committing the most horrible crimes on the other 364 days. You cannot trust a brigand or a gangster." AMERICAN PLANES HUNDREDS SENT TO BRITAIN WASHINGTON, Dec. 26. (Received Dec. 27, at 2 a.m.) Officials said that the United States in 1940 sent to Britain about 1500 planes, although the R.A.F. got probably half of the 500 which were sent to Canada. This estimate is based on export statistics showing that 1146 planes, all believed to be military machines, were sent to Britain up to October 1, 1940.
