__ —•».—: MEETING OF COMMITTEE Mrs J. McGeorge presided over the monthly meeting ot the committee of the Dunedin branch of the Plunket Society. Before beginning the business of the meeting, Mrs McGeorge,.on behalf of the committee, welcomed Mrs F. J. Turner, a new member. The October report of the matron of the Truby King-Harris Hospital was read ana received. In October, 17 mothers and 31 babies were admited, 17 mothers and 2y babies were discharged, and the greatest number in residence on any one day was 8 mothers and 29 babies. Cases were admitted from- Temuka, Omlmi, Tapanui Clinton, Milton, and Hock and Pillar, and from the city and suburbs. During the month 12 Mosgiel Girl Guides and 20 A.L.E. students visited the hospital. Twelve Plunket nurses from other centres were in residence for one week's refresher course. .' attended the rooms, being given clinical, instruction by Dr Deem, medical adviser to- the council, on unsatisfactory cases. On the last day of the Plunket nurses' refresher course, conducted at the Truby King-Haris Hospital, the class was given clinical instruction in various cases by Dr Deem The summary of the Dunedin Plunket nurses' report states that there are 1792 babies on the list, 774 older children on the list, 1451 visits paid to homes, 5030 visits paid to offices (mothers 2462, babies 2260. older children: 313). 135 new cases for the month (babies only), and 128 babies breast-fed (including partly), new cases. Out-stations visited were Mosgiel. Abbotsford, Green Island, Concord. Ravensbourne, St. Leonards. Sawyers Bay Port Chalmers, Middlemarch. Maia, Henlev. Macandrew Bay, Outram, Waikouaiti. Dunback. Hampden, Moeraki, Kartigi. Sha" Point. Seacliff, Pukeferaki, Karitane, Wailati. Warrington, Goodwood, -Omimi. and Kilmog. Visits paid to suburban rooms were: Roslyn 11, North-East Valley 10, Mornington 13, Anderson's Bay 8, Caversham Kindergarten 10, St. Clair 5, and South Dunedin 2-4 p.m. daily except Saturdays and Sundays. The Louisa Roberts Hospital, Middlemarch, has been visited twice, and the Palmerston Cottage Hosoital has been visited three times during the month. Two troops of Girl Guides

were examined in Palmerston for the child nurse badge. It was reported that £l2 Is 8d had been collected in less than -60 money boxes issued by the society among the mothers last March. The boxes would be distributed at the beginning of the year. Arrangements were made by the members of committee to contribute towards che Christmas dinner at the Truby KingHarris Hospital • The following executive of the committee of the Dunedin branch was elected for the ensuing year:—Mrs J. McGeorge (president), Lady Sidey, Mesdames Begg. Williams, Clapperton, Solomon, and Miss Johnstone.
