BOTTLED PETROL
PURCHASES FOR USE IN SMALL CARS Motorists are resorting to the purchase of petrol in bottles from grocers for use in cars, it was stated at a meeting of the executive of the Antimobile Association (Wellington). The chairman. Mr E. A. Batt, said he had been told by a grocer that people with small cars had been buying at Is 3d a bottle petrol bottled for domestic use. They would be paying 5s a gallon. Mr E. Palliser; You will have the Oil Fuel Controller after you if you give publicity to that, The chairman said he did not believe there was harm in the practice receiving publicity. “ It just shows how hard driven they are. to pay Is 3d a quart,” he said. Four bottles, however, would take a small car 40 miles. Mr H. W. Shortt: It is better to pay that than be towed home, isn’t it? Mr Pallister remarked that it was a pretty high price, because most bottles of the kind held only three gills. The secretary. Mr W. A. Sutherland, said he believed the price would be 7s a gallon.
