TWO GIRLS KILLED

MOTOR CAR SMASH FOUR PERSONS INJURED ONE IN SERIOUS CONDITION (Per United Press Association' CHRISTCHURCH, Nov 3. Two persons were killed and four others injured when a motor car left the road at a corner at Burwood early this morning and overturned into a ditch. Those killed were:— Patricia Margaret Mary Collins, aged 17. the daughter of Mr J. J. Collins, of 58 Barbadoes street, Sydenham. Hazel Lcnore Dando, rged 16, the daughter of Mr L. M. Dando, of 18 Clarence road. Lower Riccarton. The four persons who were injured are all suffering from concussion, shock, and abrasions. They are: Mrs Sylvia McDonald, aged 19. of 141 Somerfield street; condition serious. Arthur Percival Ivory, aged 19, of 142 Milton street: condition satisfactory. James Edward Lewis, aged 24. of <-8 York street: condition satisfactory. Edward Clifford, aged 23, of 23 Yors street, Opawa; condition satisfactory. The car, a heavy sedan model, was being driven by Ivory towards North, Brighton. It left the road at a corner, skidded in gravel on the side of the road, and ran down a slight grassy slope into a deep ditch. The left side of the vehicle struck two big poplar stumps, which tore the side of the car completely off. and the roof collapsed. The wreckage was scattered over a fairly wide area, and the spare rim and tyre finished up 100 feet further down the ditch.
