Mr A. C. Mills returned to Christchurch by the through express yesterday.

Mr W. R. Clark left for Wellington by the through express yesterday to attend a meeting of the Federation of Labour.

Mr Mark uilverstone was a passenger for Wellington by the through express yesterday. Mr C. E. Brian, deputy chief postmaster at Dunedin, has been promoted to a similar position in Wellington. He is at present relieving the chief postmaster at Palmerston North. Passengers by the northbound Union Airways plane yesterday were Mr F. J. Claret, Mr W. A. Boucher, Mrs W. A. Boucher, and Mr H. Henderson for, Christchurch, Mr L. J. Stevens, Mr J. Fletcher, Miss O. Morgan, Mr J. Rolling, and Mr J. F. Harland for Wellington, and Mr G. Banks for Palmerston North. Passengers by the southbound plane were Mr H. F. Menzies, Miss F. J. Patterson, and Sister Constance from Auckland. Mrs J. C. Hinton and infant from Palmerston North, and Mr A. S. Nicholls from Christchurch.

Major A. ?. Mac Duff, ot Christchurch, who left New Zealand with the first echelon, has been appointed to the headquarters of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force as a General Staff officer. He attended the Middle East Staff College at Haifa for four months. Major Mac Duff was attached to th- Canterbury Regiment for 12 years, and left New Zealand as commanding officer 'of A Company of the Canterbury Regiment. Well known in Christchurch golfing and rowing circles, he was also a member of the Christchurch Football Club and a former Canterbury representative.

A message from Sydney states that the Bishop-elect of Nelson, the Rev. P. W. Stevenson, prior to his departure for New Zealand, was given a send-off at Chapter House, St, Andrew’s Cathedral.
