CONTRIBUTIONS TO WAR EFFORT DAY’S PAY AND FREE LOAN OF £SOOO (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 27. The annual conference of the New Zealand Workers’ Union was opened at Wellington on June 19, concluding on June 24. Two decisions of an important nature, dealing with the union’s contribution to the war effort were arrived at unanimously by the delegates. They are:— An appeal is to be issued to all officials. organisers and members to give a day’s pay in support of the Government’s war effort, the whole of the proceeds frcm the appeal to be forwarded to the Minister of Finance. That the union lend to the New Zealand Government free of interest £SOOO for the duration of the war and six months afterwards, a cheque for which has been forwarded to Mr Nash.
