QUEENSTOWN Red Cross Appeal Further donations to the Red Cross-St. John appeal have brought the total to £lB2 12s 3d. The Weather The winter so far has been an open one. The last few days have been mild. Last Saturday 18 degrees of frost were recorded. OMAKAU Golf In the Scrymgeour Memorial Golf Match the following were the results; —Mrs Ingram beat Miss C. Harvey, 6 and 5; Mrs Charles beat Mrs Oaten, 7 and 6; Miss T. Alexander won by default from Mrs Naylor: Mrs Lucas beat Mi’s Wallington, 2 and 1. The other members played an Eclectic Round, the best scores being: Mrs Truesdale 54—18—36, Miss J. Harvey 46 9 —37. On Saturday a Bogey Match will be played, proceeds in aid of Red Cross funds. The following is the draw:—Mrs Charles v. Mrs Ingram, Miss T. Alexander v. Mrs Lucas, Mrs Truesdalb v. Mrs Oaten, "Mrs Butcher v. Miss C. Harvey, Mrs Wallington v. Mrs Naylor, Mrs Scorgie v. LAWRENCE Borough Council The monthly meeting of the Lawrence Borough Council was held on Monday evening, the Mayor (Mr R, F, Batchelor) presiding. The Mayor made reference to the passing of Messrs B. Winn and J. R. Smyth, the former an ex-Mayor and councillor and the latter an ex-councillor of the borough.—lt was resolved to forward letters of sympathy to the relatives. It was resolved to make application to the Minister of Internal Affairs to insert a clause in the next Washing-up Bill enabling the council to pay over the sum of £lB2 19s Bd, plus accrued interest from the Tuapeka Brass Band trust account to the Otago Provincial Patriotic Council for Red Cross’ work. Cr Colgan reported that the water in the Phcenix dam had fallen three feet, but water was still being supplied to the miners 24 hours a day. The Bungtown race had been cleared, but two breaks on the Green Gully race had still to be repaired. Cr Pitt reported that lona, Colonsay, Penrith, Lancaster, and Rae streets had been gravelled during the month, while water tabling had been carried • out in Ardrossan and Oban streets. The Hospital Creek had also been flushed out. Cr Martin reported that iceflow glass had been installed inside the windows of the Town Hall, and a considerable improvement had been effected. Accounts totalling £167 16s 2d were passed for payment. Dog Trials On Tuesday the Tuapeka Collie Dog Club commenced its annual trials. Mr J. D. Mcßae, of Puketi, was judge. The results were as follows:—Class I —Maiden Head; L. J, Lidell’s (Taieri Mouth) Bob, 51 points, 1; E. L. Adams’s (Miller’s Flat) Moss, 47 points, 2; W. S. Wilson’s (Clarksville) Fan, 46 points, 3. Local Maiden Head: H. Cuttance’s (Glenore) Pip and A. R. Dickson’s (Manuka) Nell, 44 points (equal), 1; J. Fahey's (Bowler’s Creek) Sharp, 43 points, 3. A sheep-guessing competition resulted as follows:—J. Colgan (Lawrence), C. Batchelor (Miller’s Flat), and J. M. Rose (Waitahuna) each guessed 891 b, which was nearest to the correct weight of 90Jib, Community Sing On Monday evening, in the Lawrence Town Hall, Messrs J. F. Himburg and A. Pettit conducted a community sing in aid of the Beaumont Pipe Band.
