NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL NEXT TOURNEY AT CHRISTCHURCH (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June 27. Total registrations of 395 clubs and 19,810 members were reported in the annual report of the New Zealand Bowling Association, presented at the annual meeting of the Dominion Council to-day Membership showed an increase of 711 during the year. It was decided to make a gift of £IOO to the Red Cross, and proposed to give the championship tournament profits for patriotic purposes. The next annual tournament will be held at Christchurch. The conference decided that play shall begin on January 8 with the Singles on Wednesday and Thursday, the Pairs on Friday and Saturday and the Fours on the following Monf&'r A. Rogers, of Christchurch, was appointed the official bowls tester. The annual levy will be the same as last year. Mr H. B. Oakey (Christchurch) was elected secretary Messrs L. B. Evans (president), W, Efford (treasurer), A. Dickson and J. Gagliardi and H. B. Oakey will comprise the Dominion Executive, and with co-opted members of the Christchurch Centre they will also be the Tournament Committee.

The disappointment of bowlers who come from distant parts to compete in the Dominion tournament and who may be put out of play early under the present two-life system, was discussed by the conference. Thompson (North Otago) proposed and seconded the motion pro forma, both saying that they opposed it. —The remit was lost unanimously. . , Mr W. Gilbert (Wellington) suggested that a letter be sent to the centres asking if they thought the representation of one delegate for each 1000 players in a centre would be satisfactory. He also recommended that a permanent secretary be engaged.—Both suggestions lapsed for want of a seconder. BRIGHTON CLUB The annual meeting of the Brighton Club was held in the Hislop Hall last evening. In the absence of the president (Mr E. Dyason), who was confined to his bed, Mr J. McLaughlan occupied the chair. , , Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet. Mr McLaughlan briefly referred to the successful season experienced, and said that, though the green' had not been at its best, the committee was putting in good work, and it was confident that the energy expended would not be in vain. The finances ■ were in a healthy state, and augured well for a successful season. To the centre the club extended its sincerest thanks and appreciation for its work on the bpwlers behalf.
