EMERGENCY LAWS

MAJOR REGULATIONS ISSUE EXPECTED TO-DAY COMPREHENSIVE POWERS (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, June 17. The major regulations under the Emergency Regulations Amendment Act, which was passed a fortnight ago, are expected to be issued to-morrow. They will be submitted to a meeting of the Executive Council to-morrow morning. The regulations are likely to deal with many phases of national life associated with the war effort. Immediately after the passing of the Act the law draftsmen started to work on the framing of the regulations, of which, it is believed, there is a very large number, and draft copies have received very lengthy consideration by the Cabinet, in association with the heads of the armed forces and the other State departments concerned. Among the regulations are some giving the ■ Government power to declare any organisation subversive. It was announced last night that these would be issued to-day, largely because of the position that had arisen with the National Service Movement in Auckland, but this course was not followed, and they will now be dealt with at tomorrow’s meeting.
