DEATH ON SHIP STRUCK BY WINCH HANDLE (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 11. ? Struck in the abdomen by the handle ■ of a winch while attending boat drill ' on a ship on Saturday morning, a ship’s butcher suffered severe internal ' injuries which later proved fatal. The ; victim was Alfred Pendrill. aged 45, «•. married. SHOT IN GROIN ACCIDENT AT CAMP (Per United Press Association i j AUCKLAND, May 11. As the result of the accidental dis- - t charge of a revolver Lieutenant D. P. ~ Dumbleton, New Zealand Staff Corps, was shot in the groin at the Military t District School of Instruction at Narrow Neck to-day. He was conducting ' revolver practice for territorials when !' the accident occurred. Lieutenant Dumbleton was taken to hospital, but ’■ his condition is not serious. FOUND DEAD ARRESTED MAN IN CELL (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 12. Arrested on Saturday night, a middle-aged man, William Evans, was found dead in the cells at tbe Taranaki street, police station early this morning. After his arrest he was visited _ frequently by the constable on duty. ' At 3 a.m. he was found dead and a doctor expressed the opinion that T death had occurred about an hour pre- J viously. CHILD’S DEATH FROM BURNS . (Per United Press Association) ASHBURTON, May 11. Arthur E. Gcodwin, aged three, son of Mr J. F. Goodwin, of Tinwald, died in' the hospital as the result of scalds from boiling fat on Thursday. He pulled the pot off the Are. FOUND DEAD BROKEN GAS PIPE NEAR BODY Frederick Meredith, aged about 60, T a married man, was found dead at -his business premises late crt Friday night. .< Meredith was an indent agent with a rooms in Patterson's Buildings, Rattray street. A gas pipe in the room where g the body was found had been forcibly \ broken. * j An inquest for the purposes of iden- j. tification was held before Mr H. W. ( Bundle, S.M., on Saturday evening and was adjourned sine die. ELDERLY MAN INJURED As a result of the motor car in which n he was a passenger colliding with a . milk float on the Lower Portobello road yesterday morning an elderly man - named John Restieaux was admitted to the Hospital shortly after 10 o’clock suf- .- fering from concussion. The injured man resides at 6'Crosby street, Mornington. FALL FROM BICYCLE Rudwin France, a youth, 14 years of age, residing at 155 Glen avenue, Mornr ington, fell from a bicycle at Burnside on Saturday. He was admitted to the Hospital at noon with concussion and facial abrasions.
