PASSENGER KILLED
CAR HITS TELEGRAPH POLE EARLY MORNING ACCIDENT SEVERAL OCCUPANTS INJURED (Per United Press Association) NELSON, Mar. 22. A young woman was killed and two other passengers admitted to hospital, one in a serious condition, as the result of a car running into a telegraph pole at Wakatu on the main Stoke-Nelson road at 1.30 o'clock this morning. The victim was:— Miss Nancy O'Sullivan, aged 20, of Nile street, Nelson. Killed instantaneously. The following were injured:— John Sutherland Howard, aged 22, of South street, Nelson; severe head injuries and compound fracture of the leg; condition serious. Miss Smith, of Nelson, injuries to shoulder; admitted to hospital.
Miss Sadie Howard, minor injuries. James O'Brien, of Annesbrook. minor injuries.
The car was returning to Nelson from the country and was driven by Alan Brake, of Nelson. The side of the car struck a telegraph post, which was snapped in two places. The vehicle went through a hedge, struck a. tree, and returned to the road, where it turned over on its side.
