Expelled from Labour Party The National Executive, by 17 votes to 3, expelled Mr D. N. Pritt from membership of the British Labour Party for opposition to Labour's policy regarding Russian aggression against Finland. " New Harvest of Death " " While the commission is still finding on the battlefields the remains of men who gave their lives to end war, it has had to prepare for a new harvest of death," declares the twentieth report of the War Graves Commission. It adds that the figures of the war dead will possibly never be final. Dead are being found every week on the old battlefields. , Contraband Control Bases On March 19, there were 29 neutral ships in the British contraband control bases. Twelve had been there for four days or less. They included 15 Dutch, 5 Belgian, 2 Italian, 1 each Danish, Eirean, Finnish, Norwegian, Portuguese, Greek and Swedish. During the week ended March 16 the Contraband Committee considered 77 cargoes which had arrived since March 9 and 24 outstanding from the previous week. In 44 eases the entire cargoes were released. Wood Chopping; Record Tom Kirk, a young axeman from Lithgow. made a world record at the Sydnev Royal Show when he completed a 15-inch standing cut-in 55 2-ssec. The Strickland-Richards Bout Stadiums, Limited, of Sydney, will not allow Ron Richards to fight Maurice Strickland in New Zealand. Mr W. Donohue, managing director of Stadiums, Limited, said: "If Strickland likes to come to Australia we will consider a fight, but we have paid Richards several thousands of pounds and we are not so stupid as to allow New Zealand to take our best asset from us."
Easter Adjournment Both Houses of Parliament adjourned on Thursday ' for Easter. The House of Commons will resume on April 2. Trade Treaty with Holland
Conversations which have been proceeding some time in London between British and Netherlands representatives on trade questions arising out of war conditions have now been successfully concluded, and the agreement has been initialled. A Joint Commission is to be set up which will meet in London or The Hague, and will deal with any questions which may arise in the operation of the agreement.
Army Registrations About 1,270,000 men have been registered to date under the Military Training Act in Great Britain.
British Miners' Wages British miners will receive a further increase of 4d per shift, making a total war-time advance of l?d. The result will be a rise in the cost of living. . -
