CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE
[>ENOUNCED BY MR GANDHI TRIUMPH OVER EXTREMISTS CALCUTTA, Mar. 20. (Received Mar. 22, at 7 p.m.) Mr Gandhi triumphed over the extremists at the Congress. In a vigorous speech denouncing -civil disobedience until his conditions of "no violence" were fulfilled he reproached the leaders of the Congress for a lack of discipline, without which they were certain to be defeated. He said: " I nave never been defeated. We must break the bonds of slavery and fight to win, but I am your general and you must accept my conditions." The Congress rejected proposals for immediate action from the " anticompromise" group of Congress members who were holding a rival conference a mile away under the leadership of Mr Subhas Bose. 'The " anti - compromise ". ' supporters passed a resolution to start on April 6 an all India struggle, withdraw from the war and procure executive independence.
