DEATH IN ACTION

LEADING-WRITER POULSON FORMERLY ON ACHILLES Advice, from England has been received by friends in Auckland of the death of Leading-writer C. W. Poulson. of the naval minesweeper Sphinx, which was damaged in an enemy air attack and subsequently capsized while being towed to port in heavy weather. Leading-writer Poulson. whose home was in Greenford. Middlesex, served for three years in New Zealand waters in H.M.S. Achilles. He went back to England toward the end of 1938. when the cruiser returned to be recommissioned.

On the Sphinx those who were killed were Commander J. R. Taylor and four ratings. Four officers and 45 ratings are feared to have been drowned. No information has been received whether Leading-writer Poulson wag killed or was among those drowned.
