THE MASCOT
Wherever there is a band of soldiers there is a mascot, and i one duly went from Wellington. But he was no stranger to soldiering. The pet of Lieutenant Errol Williams, of the Rifle Battalion, this bull terrier, “Major,” had lived at Trentham camp most of his life, and when the troops were transferred for mass training to Waiouru, he went there too The troops from Trentham camp made *•' a farewell appearance and parade in Wellington on January 3, and formed up in the grounds of Parliament House for addresses from the Governor-General, the Prime Minister and other leaders; “Major” was there, too. A few a’eeks before the echelon sailed his master married in Christchurch, and “ Major ” attended, bedecked in white ribbon.
