FORECAST FOR OTAGO COLD CONDITIONS PREDICTED The following official weather forecast for Otago, covering the ensuing 24 hours, was issued at 5 p.m. yesterday by the Meteorological Office in Wellington:— Fresh to strong south-westerly winds. Weather'cold, squally and changeable, with occasional showers more especially In the west and south. Some further snowfalls probable in the high country. Seas moderate to rather rough. DOMINION FORECAST SHOWERS ON EAST COAST The following is the official weather forecast for the Dominion: — An anti-cyclone with its axis lying east and west, is centred to the north of New Zealand, and a deep westerly depression is approaching across the South Tasman Sea. Indications are for:— Winds. —From between north-west and south-west, but a more definite southwesterly change soon setting in from the south. Force moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in parts of western and far southern districts of the South Island. Seas. —New Zealand waters: • Moderate on the east coast north of Otago Peninsula, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Winds from a westerly quarter, strong to gale force in the southern portion, with very rough seas. Fresh to strong, but decreasing in the northern portion, with rather rough seas. Weather.—Showers in Westland and Southland, and showers extending to eastern districts of the South Island, with the south-westerly chapge. Otherwise mainly fair to cloudy. Cool temperatures, with some further snow probable on the ranges of the South Island. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN There was again a strong wind from the south-west on Saturday, with some rain and occasional hail showers. Though the sun shone intermittently, temperatures generally were cool, the maximum being 57 degrees. Yesterday morning was overcast, with a light north-easterly breeze, which swung to the north-west in the afternoon and brought higher temperatures until the evening. A southerly change then set in and heavy rain fell. The barometer fell steadily all day, the reading at midnight being 29.36 (994 millibars).
