HOW TO KNIT A SLEEVELESS PULL-OVER
The following knitting pattern has been approved by the "Air Force Relations ":
General Instructions.—Always knit into the back of the cast-on row to make a firm edge. Always knit the last stitch, whatever the pattern, and slip the first one. Alwavs use preshrunk wool. This can be done by soaking in hot water and hanging to drip dry. Tie the skeins in several places first to avoid tangles. Never wind the wool too tightly; it impoverishes the wool. Never knot the wool; splice instead. Wool required (36in chest measurement): 6oz 4-ply. Needles: One pair 10. one pair 8. Front: Cast on 100 stitches on No. 10 needles and rib K2 P2 for 3§ inches. Change to No. 8 needles and continue in stocking-stitch till the work measures 13 inches. Start the armhole border by knitting 12 stitches at each side in garter-stitch for four rows. Shape the armhole by casting off six stitches at each side. Then, keeping a border of six stitches in garter-stitch, decrease four times at each side alternate rows. You now have 80 stitches. Commence the neck by knitting the 12 centre stitches in garter stitch for four rows. Divide for neck opening. There is now a border of garter stitch on each side artd on the neck edge of six stitches. Shape neck by knitting together the two stitches next to the border 12 times every fourth row. You now have 24 stitches. Continue till armhole measures nine inches. Beginning at armhole edge, shape shoulder by casting off six stitches alternate rows three times. Continue on the six neck border stitches for two inches; cast off. Make the back the same "as the front, omitting neck opening. To make up: Jpin shoulder and side seams, join neck border, and attach to the neck edge of the back.
