Cricket In the opening matches of the Maniototo Cricket Association’s Competition, wins were scored by Patearoa and Waipiata. For Patearoa J. Blakely made 81 runs not out. W. McAtamney took seven wickets for 26 against Naseby. Waipiata, 217 for seven wickets, declared (Jones 45. Baird 33, Greer 33, Dr Priest 36), Murray took two wickets for 32, Priest one for 8, Gibson one for 28, and Jones four for 7) beat Ranfurly 101 runs (J. Hanrahan 34. J. Lynch 22; J.’ took two wickets for 65, Xnder one for 44, Lynch one for 39). Patearoa 130 (John Blakely 81, not out, F. Greer 14; McAtamney seven for 26, J. Blakely two for 24, James Blakely one for 8) beat Naseby 62 (L. L. Smith 15, Becker 10; Smith took one wicket for 25, Becker three for 26). The draw for next Saturday is as follows: Ranfurly v. Patearoa, Naseby v. Waipiata. Golf On Saturday, the Middlemarch Golf Club played the local club in the annual game for the McKillop Cup. The local club was successful in winning by 105 games to SJ. Mr McKillop, presenting the cup, congratulated the winners and expressed the wish that the annual match would continue. Mr R. A. Long returned thanks on behalf of the winners, and Mr Aubrey spoke on behalf of Middlemarch. The results were as follows (Ranfurly names first): Macdonald beat Berkeley, Dr Kidd boat P. Mathieson, McLachlan beat J, Mathieson, Long beat Mitchell, Gilbert beat Cameron, Jamieson and Murray all square. Anderson beat Glover, Wilson lost to Slater. Mrs Jamieson lost to Miss Elliott, Mrs Rutherford beat Mrs Gulnon, Mrs Macdonald lost to Mrs Aubrey, Mrs Gilchrist beat Mrs Murray. Miss Cromb beat Miss McDonald, Miss Grant lost to Mrs Spratt, Mrs Weir beat Mrs Stevens, Mrs Anderson lost to Mrs Polaschek. J. R. Benson. ALEXANDRA

Welcome Social On Monday evening the congregations of the Alexandra and Clyde Presbyterian Churches extended a welcome home to their minister, the Rev. H. W. West, and Mrs West, who were recently married. Mr W. Brlngans, the Mayor of Alexandra, and an elder of the parish, presided, and briefly extended a hearty welcome to Mr and Mrs West. Mr L. Woods, session clerk, also extended congratulations. He assured Mrs West that she would receive the whole-hearted co-operation and assistance of the members of the various church organisations. He presented Mr and Mrs West with presents on behalf of the congregation. Mr R. G. Smith, on behalf of the Bible classes, also presented to Mr and Mrs West a token of their esteem, and offered congratulations. Misses Daphne Fox and Sheila McLennan, on

behalf of the Busy Bees, presented to Mrs West a bouquet, and offered congratulations. During the evening a musical programme was presented by the choir. Personal

Mr G. H. Elliffc, the district public trustee, is at present visiting Alexandra. Mr Adolph Mann, the examiner for Trinity College of Music, is carrying out the examinations at the Alexandra centre.
