FAKED BOUTS ALLEGED INQUIRY TO BE HELD CHICAGO, Oct. 3Q. (Received Oct. 31, at 7 p.m.) The Illinois State Athletic Commission has barred Tony Galento, Max Schmeling and Harry Thomas, and their managers, Joe Jacobs and Nat E. Lewis, from further fights pending a gubernatorial inquiry. . ' The Chicago Tribune published alleged affidavits in which Thomas says that by arrangement between Lewis and Jacobs his fights with Schmeling and Galento were faked in order to build up reputations for challengers seeking bouts with Joe Louis. He says he received 8500 dollars for “taking a dive” with Schmeling and was promised 6000 dollars for meeting Galento. THE WELTER-WEIGHT TITLE RETAINED BY ARMSTRONG DENVER. Oct. 31. (Received Nov. 1, at 0.45 a.m.) , Henry Armstrong retained the world welter-weight title against Bobby Pacho with a technical knock-out m the fourth round.
