At the recent tea function held at the Savoy by the Otago University Graduates’ Association, the speaker was Miss Winifred McQuilkan B.A (Oxon.) who related some of her university experiences at Oxford this year. Dr B. H Howard (president of the association) occupied the chair and about 50 graduates were present Miss McQuilkan dealt principally with some of the interesting people she was privileged to meet at Oxford and many names she mentioned were well known to her hearers as orominent figures in modern literature. She also spoke feelingly of the terrors of the “ viva voce ” or oral examination which the aspirant for honours in classics at Oxford has to undergo A vote of thanks to Miss McQuilkan for her interesting talk was proposed by Dr Siedeberg-McKinnon.
