WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
MID-OTAGO COUNCIL MEETS Lawrence was the scene of unusual activity on Wednesday last, when 150 delegates and members of the MidOtago Federation of Women’s Institutes assembled for their half-yearly council meeting. Twenty-one Institutes were represented. Following morning tea, members adjourned to the large, sunny hall, which had been decorated with Iceland poppies and' rhododendrons and hung with the Institute banners. The president. Mrs Graham, of Roxburgh, welcomed delegates, visitors, and Miss Amy Lane (Dominion President), who was presented with a spray of tulips. Mrs Varcoe, of Lawrence, also spoke in welcome, and presented sprays to the president, secretary, and treasurer. A circular from the Otago Pioneer Women’s Memorial Association was read. It was decided to raise the subscription to 3s. this amount to be divided equally between Dominion and District *Federations and individual institutes Preliminary arrangements were made for a picnic group rally to be held at Seacliff on November 22.
