BOARD OF DIRECTORS The monthly .meeting of the Y.W.C.A Board of Directors was held on Wednesday. Mrs C, M. Begg presiding over Mesdames R. Ellis, B. Kerr, H. Parata, E, Patterson, S. Townend, Misses M. Begg, J. Dallas. G. Farnie, F. McNamara, A, Permln, Lovell-Smith (general secretary). Leave of absence for three months was granted to Miss P. Jones. A vote of sympathy was passed with Miss Frances Ross by the board. It was decided to send to the Prime Minister and the local members of Parliament a resolution regarding the policy of admitting immigrants, which had been passed at the midway meeting of the National Board. Plans were made for the garden party to be held next Wednesday. It was decided that the following services should be held during the Y.W.C.A, World’s Week of Prayer m November: —Sunday, November 12, sunrise service, 7 a m.; hostel residents service at 10 a.m., and members’ service on Tuesday evening, November 14. The arrangements for the services were left in the hands of a sub-com-mittee of the World Fellowship Committee. . . . The financial statement was adopted, and current accounts were passed for payment. . _ The hostel report given by Miss Rosevear stated that there were 55 girls in residence. Thirteen prosioective residents had been unable to secure accommodation. A donation towards a wireless set for the hostel had been received from the Y.W.C.A. Auxiliary. An enjoyable “welcome party” to thp new board and committee members had been held in the hostel on October 6. The girls had entered a team in the interhouse sports.

The health and recreation report stated the cricket club had held its annual meeting and had decided to enter one team in the Otago Women's Cricket Association competition, as did the Baseball Club, which had.also held its annual meeting. The ihterhouse sports day was reported as being a successful function, mention being made of the march past. It was stated that

Mias Greenwood had offered to present a cup for this event, to be held by the winning team. The house and cafeteria secretary reported that Miss E. Wilson, of the Home Science Department, had given an interesting talk to the committee on menu planning, which had been much enjoyed by those present. The hall and dub rooms had been used constantly during the month for club and functions. Two trainees for canteen work were gaining experience in the cafeteria kitchen. < The activities report stated that the Girl Citizens’ attendance had been good during the month, and members were learning to do first aid work. The community gathering had been successful. The Home Nursing Chib was giving valuable service to the Red Cross classes by demonstrating and training members in the art® of bandaging. The Every Girl’s Club held its monthly social in the first week in October, Two girls were going to the leaders’ week-end camp at Timaru. ■. .....

The National Executive requested the Dunedin Association to help the Whangarei Association by giving a number of articles for a sale of work in aid of their funds. It was agreed to help in this way. . A report was received from the National Association with regard to the Y.W.C.A. bay at the Centennial Exhibition. Members were asked to notify the secretary If they would ha willing to attend for a short period when visiting the Exhibition. Mesdames Begg, Ellis and Parata were appointed to represent the Y.W.C.A. and to attend the “open night” of the National Council of Women on November 1. The general secretary reported that a function had been held in the Museum, when club members were the guests of Dr and Mrs H. D. Skinner. About 70 members attended, and after being shown a great many interesting exhibits in the Museum they were entertained at supper by the Activities Committee.
