THE RETAIL PRICE OF SUGAR

TO THE EDITOR

Sir,—l see on reading your paper this morning that there is a rise of £3 16s 6d a ton in the price of sugar to the merchants. I would like to know how it is that seaside stores are charging 4id per pound, as the retail price of sugar is to be 4d per pound. I purchased 21b of sugar the other day for which I was charged 4Jd a pound. Now I think this is a pure piece of profiteering and hope the authorities will see that a stop is put to it.—l am, etc., October 19. Fair Deal.
