LOCAL REGISTRATIONS . Eleven men volunteered for service in the special force on Saturday, bringing Otago’s total up to 1111. The final local draft for the first echelon will get away this morning, the detachments all being destined for the North Island camps at Trentham and Ngaruawahia. ENLISTMENT OF FARMERS DISCRIMINATION URGED (Per United Press Association) ASHBURTON, Oct. 14. Apprehensive that the enlistment of many farmers and farm workers will seriously affect production in the county, the executive of the Mid-Can-terbury Branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union has telegraphed to the Prime Minister (Mr Savage) strongly urging discrimination in enlistments. Mr Savage has replied stating that every effort is being made to safeguard the position regarding farm production. MEDICAL OFFICERS SPECIAL PROFESSIONAL ALLOWANCE (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND. Oct, 15. In addition to the regulation rates of pay, a professional allowance of 10s a day will be granted to doctors serving as officers of the New Zealand Army Medical Corps. Advice to this effect has been received in Auckland.
