Ministerial The Postmaster-general (Mr F. Jones), accompanied by Mrs Jones and his private secretary (Mr F. Sherwood), arrived by motor car from the north yesterday! The Minister will receive deputations to-day and to-morrow morning he will officially open the new assembly, hall of the King s High School. Mr P. Neilson M.P.. and Mr J. W. Munro. M.P.. were passengers from the north by Saturday's express.
Bishop Fitchett left for Wellington on Saturday to attend a meeting of the Bench of Bishops and of the Standing Committee of the General Synod.
Mr H. H. Sykes was a passenger by the mid-day express on Saturday, en route to Wellington.
Mr D. C. Cameron and Mr J. H. F. Hamel left on Saturday for New Plymouth to attend the annual conference of Associated Savings Banks. Mr J. S. Hislop left for Wellington on Saturday.
A detachment of the Otago Mounted Rifles, with Major 0. L. Ferens in command, left on Saturday for Burnham to undergo a training course.
Cabled advice has been received that Captain Reginald Wallis arrived in Eneland on August 10, and that his health had improved during the voyage.
Northbound passengers by the Union Airways on Saturday morning were Mr P Hollander, Mr W. G. V. Fernie. Mr D. Elliot, Mr K. Thompson. Mr C. J. Ferguson, and Mr W. Latimer for Christchurch. and Mr R. Orr. Mr L. Brookes, and Miss J. Hervey-Bennett for Wellington. Southbound passengers were Mr J. O'Brien and Mr A. Tilbury. Northbound passengers yesterday were Mrs M. Lewis for Christchurch, and Mr C. W. Young for Auckland. Southbound passengers were Mr D H. Sawyers from Auckland, Mr C. H Dyer, Mr F. Paton and Mr R. C. Burgess from Wellington, and Mr S. Brown, Miss K. Brown, Mr D. Elliot. Mr A. Smillie and Mr F. C. Christie from Christchurch.
