YOUNG NURSE'S ORDEAL

FALL OVER CLIFF RESCUE BY LAUNCH (Per United Press Association) BLENHEIM, Aug. 12. Falling over a 100-foot cliff on Kaikoura Peninsula, Nurse O. Newton, aged 17, a probationer at the Kaikoura Hospital, remained for a period of 36 hours unconscious on the beach before she was discovered. Niirse Newton left the hospital on Tuesday afternoon to go for a walk along the coast, and was looking over the cliff when she became dizzy and fell. The growth on the cliff face broke her fall, but she was renuered unconscious by a blow on the head, finally coming to rest on the shore just above high-water mark. 1 . The search for the missing girl was unsuccessful until Thursday morning, when two other nursesMisses McCombs and Russell saw her from the top of the cliff. Access to the beach was possible only by launch, in which the injured nurse was conveyed to the wharf. Under treatment at the hospital, Miss Newton recovered consciousness, and was able to give an account of the accident. She is now making a remarkably rapid recovery. Miss Newton, who belongs to Christchurch. commenced training at the Kaikoura Hospital three months ago.
