FROZEN MEAT MARKET

SMITHFIELD PRICES (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 13. The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday. August 10. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week on which this list is issued. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfleld market. (Previous prices are also shown):—

Lamb Market.—With heavier arrivals the tendency of the market is easier, with second quality a shade lower. Home-killed prices easing on the usual increasing supplies. Mutton Market.—Wethers and ewes: Steady, with fair trade. Beef Market.—Frozen beef: Firm, in sympathy with chilled. Chilled beef: Strong on the lighter supplies, with good trade. New Zealand Porker Pigs.—Firmer. New Zealand Baconer Pigs.—Nominal. Boneless Bobby Veal.—Slightly easier owing to less demand. MARGARINE PRODUCTION UNITED KINGDOM FIGURES (From Our Own Correspondent) LONDON. July 17. Margarine output in the United Kingdom continues to hold its high level. Although for the five weeks ended July 1 (4013 tons a week), it wa s slightlv lower than the weekly production during May (4296 tons), it was higher than during the same period in 1938. Last vear the weekly output in June was 3965 tons. The figures are those of the Imperial Economic Committee, published in its Weekly Dairy Notes.
