TRADE RELATIONS
NEW ZEALAND AND CANADA LIFE OF TREATY EXTENDED CONFERENCE IN OTTAWA (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright) OTTAWA, Aug. 10. (Received Aug. 11, at 6.30 p.m.) Canada and New Zealand have agreed to extend the existing trade treaty for another year. This was announced after a conference between Mr Nash and Mr W. D. Euler (Minister of Trade and Commerce). Mr Nash and Mr Euler issued a statement recognising that something should be done about the trade balance but indicating that an effective plan to bring this about had not yet been evolved. Mr Nash undertook that New Zealand, as circumstances permit, will do its utmost by relaxation of restrictions to ensure the maximum expansion of trade with Canada, consistent with the maintenance of sound economic conditions in New Zealand.
Mr Euler recognised that the scope for enlarging New Zealand imports to Canada was limited by the* few products New Zealand has available, but expressed his willingness to examine means whereby Canadian purchases of New Zealand products could be increased.
