ANNUAL SOCIAL A happy evening was spent at the Caledonian Club on Thursday, when the Institution of Engineers (Otago branch) held its annual social. During the earlier. part of the evening some novel games were played, while delightful songs were given by Mr Leslie Dunbar between the dances which followed. Miss Rita Holmes, wearing flame georgette, acted as accompanist.
The guests were received by the chairman and his wife (Mr and Mrs G. T. Edgar), the latter wearing a frock of ice blue crepe with sequin bolero.

Keller, blue ring velvet; Mr and Mrs T. J. Palmer, green shot taffeta: Mr and Mrs A. H. Parkinson, clover sheer; Mr and Mrs G. Read, capri green crepe romaine; Mr and Mrs W. D. Richards, black floral georgette, white flowers; Mr and Mrs J. Robb, black floral georgette, white fur coatee; Mr and Mrs S. G. Scoular. black with white lace; Mr and Mrs A. C. Swanson. clover moire taffeta, fur cape; Mr and Mrs R. Veitch, of Milton midnight blue georgette; Mr and Mrs J. McG Wilkie, black georgette; and Mr and Mrs F. J. Williams, fuchsia ring velvet. If' a cork is not quite large enough for a bottle, boil the cork for a few minutes. To make it watertight and airtight soak it in oil.
If a little turpentine is added to the water in which clothes are boiled, it will whiten them.
Put a pinch of salt into water in which cut flowers are placed and they will last longer. * * *
Lemon juice will remove mildew stains.
