AN APPEAL FOR HELP
TO THE EDITOR
Si r —Now that Mr Sinclair has made it clear that I am correct in my statements will vou kindly publish the appeal again? If people could see these children falling about like top-heavy dolls, my cause would be won. whole case is most distressing, and I do not Uke publicity; but if it will further the cause of these children I welcome it. If I cannot get help very soon, these children must come home Funds are nearly exhausted. The smallest donations will be thankfully received. Mr Sinclair makes this remark in your editorial note at the foot of my last letter, viz.: “ In such cases where expert medical opinion holds out little hope of cure, it is still the duty of the society to endeavour to assist the child concerned to a useful place in the community and this duty we are still prepared to fulfil when the children grow older.” I speak the truth when I say that if we had not done something for the bov he would not have lived to the age when Mr Sinclair would be willing to help. Often, the boy could not rise from bis bed before mid-day. and then was always in pain, while mentally he was getting much worse. One does not require admiration for being human. It is not my place to publish this family’s affairs. If there is any person to whom I can write explaining things
I would willingly do so in the hope that it would help. There is nothing to hide, but one does not care to have one’s affairs broadcast. I may add that I have written Lord Nuffield asking him to use his influence with the Crippled Children’s Society, and do not know yet if he received my letter. He and I are from the Homeland, and do not like to see little children suffering.—l am. etc. (Mrs) Evelyn Knowles. Tahakopa. August 10.
