GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS

DOCTORS* ATTITUDE UNCHANGED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, ’Aug. 11. A reply to the report that the medical profession has approved through the medium of ballot of acceptance of contracts for maternity services, was made this evening by Dr J. P. S. Jamieson, on behalf of the British Medical Association. He said: “I wish emphatically to repudiate the statement that the medical profession has approved of the acceptance of contracts for maternity services under the Social Security Act. Doctors will not accept any such Government contracts. They prefer to remain personal medical attendants of their patients. There is a real difference between maternity and Public Works and doctors refuse to become Government contractors. The inauguration of a general practitioner service is still at issue.”
