Progress League The quarterly meeting of the executive of the Omakau Progress League was held on Tuesday evening, the president, the Rev. C. E. Tylee. in. the chair. Correspondence was received from the South Island Travel Association on the question of a guide book for Central Otago, and from the Vincent County Council in reply to the league’s representations regarding speed restrictions and street lighting. The Education Department wrote in reference to the representations made some time ago regarding the provision of a footway on the new bridge to Ophir, and after some discussion it was resolved to hold the matter over for further consideration. The chairman reported on the progress of the motor camp, at which a number of amenities would be installed. Several other matters of interest to the district were discussed, and the next meeting of the executive was fixed for the second Tuesday in November. Golf On Saturday the women members of the Omakau Golf Club played the monthly L.G.U. Competition, the best scores being: Miss J. Beattie net 76, Mrs Ingram 76, Miss J. Harvey 77, Mrs Beattie 80. Mrs Scorgie 82. Ice Hockey t . Messrs James Noone, F. Harrex, H. Wilson, A. Davidson, E. Jones, A. Jones. C. Williamson, and John Noone. members of the Poolburn Winter Sports Club, travelled to Lake Tekapo during the week-end in order to play an ice hockey match with the Lake Tekapo Club. The game resulted in a win for Lake Tekapo by four goals to one. The visitors were favourably impressed with the ice at the lake, and found it very fast compared with the ice to which they had been accustomed. According to the captain of the visitors, great care is taken in preparing the surface, the ice being graded, swept, and sprayed, and the splendid condition of the ice is a tribute to the care bestowed on it. The Poolburn players spent an enjoyable week-end, and returned home on Monday.
