SOUTHLAND The first match of the " home and away" matches between the two.associations was fired on Saturday night at Invercargill. In the men's matches the Otago teams established a lead, the first team winning by 788 points to 781 and the second by 778 to 757. The Southland women were successful in winning their match by one noint.' the scores being: Southland 750. Otago 749. The second niatch will be fired at Dunedin on September 30, and the total of the two matches will decide the holder of the various trophies connected 'with this competition. ? The Legion of FrontiersmenWomen's Auxiliary and Exrlmperial teams met at the legion range on' Monday, and it was notable in that this was the first time the auxiliary members of recent formation have entered in matches, the results promising. well for future fixtures. Each side recorded six pQsaibles, and slings were discarded. There were, two points only in favour of the Ex-Imperial at the close of the contest, and a return match has been arranged for September.
