BALCLUTHA Unusual Weather The weather conditions prevailing in South Otago for the past week have been decidedly unusual. There has been an entire absence of frost, and cold winds: instead there was yesterday what some people described as a “ hot wind.” Rugby Referees The following referees have been appointed for to-morrow’s games:—First Grade: Toko v. Clutha, at Balclutha (Mr D. Inglis); Crescent v. Star, at Stirling (Mr G. McAllan). Second Grade: Clutha v. Gatlins, at Balclutha (Mr C. Williams); Crescent v. Clinton, at Clinton (Mr H. Jackman); Toko v. Union, at Clarksville (Mr FI. Heads). Third Grade: Toko v. Clutha, at Balclutha (Mr I. Stewart). Fourth Grade; High School v. Toko, at Milton (Mr T, Hansen); Clutha v. Crescent, at Kaitangata (Mr E. Richardson). Scottish Society Ball The annual ball of the Balclutha Scottish Society, which was held in the Britannia Theatre on Wednesday night, drew a good attendance, although not so large as last year. Music was provided by a Dunedin band, and extras were played by a local band. Messrs L. Copland and B. Gold were the M.C.’s. Personal Mr G. Cunningham, agent for the National Mortgage and Agency Company at Clinton, has been transferred to Ranfurly, and his place at Clinton will be taken by Mr Fergus Begg, of the Dunedin office, and formerly of Balclutha. Miniature Rifle Club The entry for the weekly shoot of the Balclutha Club, held in the Band Hall, was again a good one. Mr Hugh Brown, who has been on the staff of the Milton railway station during the past 17 years, first as a porter-and latterly as shunter, has received notice of his transfer to Wairoa, Hawke's Bay. and, with Mrs Brown and their family; will leave next Friday for his nOw appointment. ’ Mr. Brown has taken a keen interest in church affairs, being a member of the Deacon’s Court of the Tokomairiro Presbyterian Church. “ Mrs Brown t has taken -an active part in the affairs of the Milton branch of the League of Mothers and in the church choir.
