LICENSING COMMITTEE

DUNEDIN SOUTH The annua! meeting of the Dunedin South Licensing Committee was held yesterday, and was attended by Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M. (chairman), and Messrs A. G. Monk, H. A. Newall, W. J. Lovell, J. Adam, and J. T. Thorn. The Police Department was represented by Senior Sergeant Claasen. The chairman said that they had before them the usual police report and the reports from the sanitary inspectors. The police report showed that the hotels had been conducted on the whole in a satisfactory manner, and with regard to the slate of the buildings they had been maintained at a satisfactory standard; One or two minor requirements were needed in connection with one or two of the buildings, but these had probably already been dealt with. The following business was transacted:— Transfer A transfer of the licence of the Parkside Hotel was granted from Matthew H. Dawson to Allan Messcnt. Issue of Licences St. Kilda Hotel, Saverio Massetti; Parkside Hotel, Allan Messent. Renewals Fitzroy Hotel, Thomas Verdon Cahill (executor of Thomas Henry Cahill, deceased); Ocean View Hotel, William John Hargreaves; Ocean Beach Hotel, John Herbert Pearson; Waterloo Hotel, Ellen Maria Crossan; Royal Hotel (Green Island). Leslie Zetland Griffin; Commercial Hotel (Green Island), Francis Edward Denys Davy; Mosgiel Hotel (Mosgiel), John Patrick O’Brien; Railway Hotel (Mosgiel). William Henrv Knott. In granting the renewal of the Royal Hotel at Green Island, the chairman said that attention had te be drawn to a conviction recorded against the licensee during the year, and that this was a blot on an otherwise clean record.
