SLUM CLEARANCE

IO THE EDITOR Sir,—l am glad to note a letter in this morning's Times in regard to slums What is actually meant, of course, is to have the frightful hovels pulled down and decent homes erected at a reasonable rental within a working man's means. The people themselves who are forced to live in these old. old places are undoubtedly good working class, because they cannot afford a high rental Fancy people hav ing to pay 16s to live in old places owned by wealthy people, such as were described by a social worker recently A thoroughbred horse would get a better stable. It is a shocking state of affairs, and one can only hope that in the near future something will be done in the interests of the rising generation, so that they may be proud of Dunedin. —I am. etc. Mother. Dunedin. June 5.
