No. 13 Scheme.—The works undertaken during the month have consisted of improvements to streets and footpaths and other necessary works within the borough. Twenty-nine men were so employed and four more were allocated this morning, making a total of 33 workers. GENERAL WORKS

Kaikorai Valley road has been graded as required. At Frederick street the footpath has been cleaned and surfaced with toppings, and the water channel in Princes street has been cleaned out as far as Duddingston street. The wall fronting Mrs Christie's section has been completed and a mud tank has been built to collect the water. At Quarry road junction, the widening has been • metalled and screenings placed upon the footpath. The footpath in front of Mr Beatties property has been rolled and surfaced. The raising of the wall in Kirkland street has been completed. Tn Abbotsford the formation of Exeter street is being carried out when suitable filling is available, and so the filling from Brown street is being used. Most of the formation work has been completed, and the path has been kerbed with timber from stock, no concrete blocks being available for this work. The formation of the footpath from Taylor's to Fleming's in Exmouth street is in hand, and is being kerbed similarly to Brown street. The North Taieri road footpath has been repaired, and the stormwater in Brown street has received attention.. Refuse has been removed from the following streets—School. Kirkland, Muir, York and Main road. The concrete channels have been swept regularly. Sanitary Depot.—The windmill has been erected and is working satisfactorily, but there is a leak in the supply pipes. These have been examined where clear of the swamp, but the leak is evidently under water, and, as the Kaikorai Stream mouth is closed, nothing can be done until it clears itself.' Water Race Over King Street.—Repairs have been made to this water race, but these were done before the Iron Works were advised the work was to be carried out that in times of 'flood the culvert would be capable of working under pressure. Bank, Lower Runciman Street.—The children in the vicinity are continually playing in this cutting and excavate in the bank, with the result that they undermine the big stones. There is a possibility of these children getting hurt if this practice is continued, but the cutting would hot cause any damage if left alone. A request has been made to extend the concrete kerb and channel in the main highway near Prosser street to take the stormwater from the houses between Scotland terrace and the main highway. The report was adopted.
