SWEDISH AVIATOR’S FLIGHT ■ (Independent Cable Service) ST. JOHN") (Newfoundland), May 16. Charles : Backman, a, Swedish aviator, aged 25, hopped off on a flight to Sweden in a 90 horsepower monoplane, the ' smallest machine ever to attempt the Atlantic. Backman has sufficient' fuel for 45 hours in the air. He hopes to reach his destination at 100 miles an hour.
