Ijn what the police described as “just a cleaning-up process,” five changes of unlawful conversion of cars and three of theft were brought against Robert Clarence' Clarke, aged 21, who escaped from prison at the beginning of the -year and traversed most of the'North Island with a young man from the Waikato, committing offences of the nature changed. , -, ‘ , ,V: ■ , Clarke was recently, dealt with by Mr (Justice Smith in- the Supreme Couft leniently* as he is already serving six years’ imprisonment, the greajter portion of the terms being for escaping from prison. The magistrate (Mr J. L. Stout) said:he would take the same view as the Supreme Court. He would not add to the sentences. “ I will convict and discharge you on these charges, and I ho|>e you will carry out your present intention'to serve your sentence and make good,” he said. ; • '
