GREEN ISLAND CRICKET CLUB
SUCCESSFUL SMOKE CONCERT To celebrate the winning of che Second Grade A and Third Grade Championships, the Green Island Cricket Club held a smoke concert. There was a large attendance and Mr A. Harraway presided. Following the loyal toast, Mr Harraway gave an outline of the club’s progress, stating that during the last six years the first eleven had won the championship five times, .osing on one occasion only bv a small margin on averages. During this period the team had lost only four matches. He specially congratulated F. Barnes, who took 101 wickets last season The toast of “ The Vice-presidents" was proposed by Mr Lex. Lindsay, Mr G. B. Orr replying. Mr Harraway proposed the “ Otago Cricket Association,” and in reply Mr Harvey congratulated the club on its successes and mentioned the difficulties that faced the association. Mr E. Freeman proposed the toast of the “ Green Island Borough Council,” and the Mayor (Mr G. A Orange) replied. Mr A. Grant proposed the toast “ Junior Representatives,” congratulating B. Barnes and R. Ryan upon their selection for the Otago junior team, and especially the former who scored a century not out against Canterbury. Mr Barnes responded. Other toasts honoured were as follows:—"Kindred Sports” (Mr B. Buchanan —Messrs T. Webster, Concord Tennis Club, and J. McMullan, Football Club); “The Teams’ (Mr W. Smellie —Messrs W. Miller and F. Dickson): “Sister Clubs” (Mr E. Valpy —Mr Heller. Carisbrook); “Secretaries, Past and Present ” (Mr A. Berry— Messrs A. Grant, C, Freeman, L. Lindsay, E. Talbot): “The Performers” (Mr G. B. Orr). Items were given during the evening by Messrs A. and W. Norman (guitar), Murphy (humorous) Mclntyre and D Georgeson (songs), A, Law (violin), and A. Berry (accordion).
